East Meets West Open House

East vs. West Open House Sign FramedI am so excited to share with you Interior & Spaces first open house for 2015!  Interior & Spaces Home Design is a residential and commercial full service design firm (interior & exterior) established in 2014 by myself and design partner in crime Niki Silverweb.  This year Niki’s workload increased and I took over the reigns as CEO and head designer.  With strategic marketing and phenomenal exposure due to my Avi Choice nomination, my client list and projects exploded.  It’s rare now that Niki & I have the opportunity to work on a sim build together.  We would be honored to invite you to our East Meets West Open House from September 1st-4th!

Making an entrance!

Entry Hall

They say you only have one chance to make a first impression.  The same applies to your home as it’s a reflection of your personality and style.  A great foyer serves a dual purpose, first function and then an inviting space to greet your guest.  I styled a ‘under the sea’ themed summer beach house highlighting a few key elements to make a greeting entry including: table/cabinet, mirror, chair, empty baskets for keys, newspaper or mail, baskets of pillows or blankets for the porch, potted plants, lighting, and some fun decorative accessories.  One could also add a collection of family photos or coat rack/umbrella stand.  Don’t over look the importance of the first impression of your home.

Celebrate America!

Red, White & Blue Beach HutsHappy July!  In just a few days the great nation of the United States of America will celebrate it’s independence with fireworks, backyard BBQ and pool parties.  I love the 4th of July and couldn’t let the holiday pass without styling three adorable beach shacks in red, white & blue!

Americana Beach HutToday, I will feature the red Trompe Loeil Kiya (available @ Collabor88) American shack decked out with Finishing Touches Patriotic Swags 2 Stars (Stripes/Stars/Stripes), Antique Hanging StarsPatriotic Sling Chair (Stars & Stripes), Red Charcoal BBQ & Blue Metal Wheelbarrow Beer Cooler.  I’m already for a 4th of July party and fireworks display.  Finishing Touches’s charcoal BBQ has multiple options for rezzable meats and grill-master poses for singles and couples.  The wheelbarrow beer cooler is dispensable.  24Karat Roux, creator and owner of Finishing Touches is offering the stars & stripes patriotic sling chairs as a subscriber gift until July 5, so hop over and grab them for the upcoming holiday.  July 1st also marks the opening day for the Perfect Ten event, running from 1st – 15th each month with deep discounts on exclusive items.  For the July round, Lunar Seasonal Designs created a fun animated Seagull eating fresh fries, the perfect deck mate!

Lunar Seasonal Design Animated SeagullInside the Americana beach hut, I designed a sweet treat buffet table using The Mustard Seed Lighthouse Table.  Aphrodite Shop’s Fruit Kebabs Platter, Patriotic Cupcakes, Fruit Desserts Dispenser, and July 4th Ice Cream (part of the 4th of July dessert pack) are on display.  Flanking the sweet treat buffet bar are two HJM Designs Gingham Rattan Chairs in Blue & Red, I picked up at Perfect Ten.  To complete the patriotic theme decor, I used Finishing Touches Twig Wreath White (Star Studded), Americana Collection Hanging Quilt (Stars & Stripes), Patriotic Wooden Stars, and Americana Collection Stacked Boxes Patriotic Flag.

Teahouse of the August Moon

Asian Tea House Full

A new round of The Challenge has started for June with the theme Asian.  There are seven designers participating in the monthly themed event offering everything from a tea house, to sushi, to Asian cabinets.  The Challenge is a bit different than other monthly home & garden shopping events where themed products are available for sale at one location.  With this event you can sneak peek the items on The Challenge site and then if interested in purchasing the creation, you teleport to the different stores.

Asian Tea House doorway

I personally love incorporating Far East pieces in home decor.  My childhood home was mainly furnished with Oriental antiques from my families travels.  The refinement of clean lines, balanced simplicity, natural materials, and hand painted lacquer furniture are elements of Asian style.  When I saw the June designs for The Challenge, I couldn’t wait to create a Japanese tea house in Second Life.  Traditionally, the tea house (as known as chashitsu) is free standing structure designed exclusivly for tea ceremonies.  Typical features of chashitsu are shoji windows and sliding doors made of wooden lattice covered in translucent paper.  I’m very fortunate that I’ve participated in many tea cermonies and its truly a beautiful experience.

Tea Table

I utilized [ht:home] little tea house as my building and styled a traditional tea ceremony with Cleo Designs tea table, chairs and tea accessories.  Cleo’s gorgeous luminous screen and floor lantern are flanking the side wall.  Apple Fall’s Chinese Credenza serves as a buffet table for Jian Sushi & Sashimi Time trays.  On the side of the buffet is 22769 ~ [bauwerk] My Zen Corner birdcage, cherry blossom, small buddha head, incense burner and zen stones.

Sushi Buffet

Pull the shoji screens closed and both sides of the doorway have Asian cabinets (22769 ~ [bauwerk] My Zen Corner & Newchurch Kaidan Mission Tansu) and customary artifacts from porcelain temple jars, to bonsai trees, to miniature Japanese zen garden.  You can easily incoporate any of these furnishing into your SL home creating layers and nuance.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with unfamiliar styles, after all virtual interior design is easier on your back!

I also wanted to highlight Prism Moira, a sexy Asian printed outfit available for free on the Summertime Fun Hunt (June 1st – 30th).  Although you couldn’t wear it to a tradtional tea cermony, it will serve as the perfect inspiration for incoporating Asian style in your home.
